Solidworks Corporation was founded by Jon Hirschtick, a MIT graduate in December 1993. Jon Hirschtick invest $1 million he earned while a team member of MIT Blackjack team to start the company. Jon Hirschtick in Waltham, Massachusetts, USA recruited engineers team which work in developing of 3D CAD software system. Jon Hirschtick idea was to create a 3D CAD system which easy to use, lower cost price and available for windows PC. Solidworks Corporation in 1995, released first product Solidworks95. In 1997, Solidworks acquired by Dassault corporation in $310 million in stock. Presently, Solidworks marketing different versions of Solidworks CAD software, eDrawings and DraftSight.

Solidworks software is a part of Dassault System. Solidworks is now developed by Dassault system Solidworks Corporation. First version of Solidworks is released in 1995. Presently the Solidworks released Solidworks 2015 SP4 (service pack 4) and Solidworks 2016 beta version currently in release phase. Solidworks provide both CAD and CAE software. From January 2015, Gian Paolo Bassi is presently CEO of Solidworks Corporation. From 2001 to July 2007, John Mceleney is CEO and from 2007 to January 2011 Jeff Ray is CEO of Solidworks Corporation.

Solidworks add more function to its software by partnership with third party developers which work in the area like FEA (Finite Element Analysis), circuit layout, CAM and tolerance checking etc., also expand its marketing area for sales. Solidworks provide licensed its 3D modeling qualities to other CAD software company ANVIL.
